Bulk Crop Images From CMD/PowerShell

Answer : ImageMagick is a light-weight tool that can be used for this. Here is an example that croppes all jpg images in a directory and puts the results in a new folder: cd path/to/dir/ mogrify -crop +100+10 -quality 100 -path ../cropped *.jpg Here, 100 pixels from the left border and 10 pixels from the top are removed. See here for more information on how to use crop. Have you tried XnCovert? XnConvert is free cross-platform batch image processor, allowing you to combine over 80 actions. Compatible with 500 formats. It uses the batch processing module of XnViewMP and it is freeware and you can donate them if you find it useful. https://www.xnview.com/en/xnconvert/

Can I Completely Disable Cortana On Windows 10?

Image
Answer : Update 2018: Warning about Taskbar Breakage I just reinstalled Windows 10 Pro and followed all the prescribed steps (both removing Cortana and removing all store apps) and it still works as prescribed. It bears mentioning that removing Cortana will break the Default Taskbar in weird ways. It doesn't break Windows Search - so Explorer search still works in my experience. I've, personally, always replaced the default taskbar with Classic Start (linked via Ninite installer) and have no issues in day-to-day Windows usage otherwise. Update: Remove Cortana via "TakeOwn" Apparently, this trick stopped working at some point. I've used @Meferdati's link at some point successfully: winaero: how to uninstall Cortona. It contains a script that does all the work for you, as well as an explanation of how it works. Below are the steps I've been using, which are very similar to @MC10's answer, except I've always had to "TakeOwn" t...

ASUS BIOS Keeps Resetting Boot Priority To Windows Boot Manager Before UEFI

Image
Answer : After more digging found one answer here that is working. http://www.tomsguide.com/answers/id-1973164/change-asus-boot-order.html I just completed a CHAT session with ASUS. It worked!! Here is what they told me: Enter the BIOS setup menu by pressing and holding F2 key when powering on. Switch to “Boot” and set “Launch CSM” to Enabled. Switch to “Security” and set “Secure Boot Control” to Disabled. Press F10 to save and exit. Press and hold ESC key to launch boot menu when the Unit restarts. We now get the following (happy!) screen: And we can get to the Ubuntu Boot Disk: (* 20 mins pass *) And now I am logged in and editing this question from the (successfully) installed ubuntu 15.10 woot! Just solved this problem by DISABLEing the FAST BOOT option in te BOOT tab. And then all the disks are selectable further on that TAB

Asus ATK Driver For Windows 10

Image
Answer : ASUS support site is not very user friendly . I made a post with all the ASUS drivers for Windows 10 , including ATK Package. Here you can find ATK Package 1.0.0061 , for 64-bit and 32-bit versions. Asus released an official ATK driver for Windows 10 64 bit and you can reach at this link (pointing to Asus official download support site): http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/nb/Apps_for_Win10/ATKPackage/ATKPackage_Win10_64_VER100039.zip Asus has a hard to find downloads section where you can grab latest versions of some apps and drivers. Follow this link and click Change Your Model , a window will appear. Select Notebook in the left column and then don't select your laptop model . Between laptop models in the center column there are some interesting items: Apps Apps for Win8 Apps for Win8.1 Apps for Win10 Drivers Drivers for Win8 Drivers for Win8.1 Drivers for Win10 Select one of these, then choose the app/driver you want from the right column. In thi...

AltGr Randomly Stops Working On Windows 10

Answer : The issue happens when you open a RDP connection. Just bring the RDP window in foreground and press Alt + Enter . The issue will disappear on all other windows too Source: How to Fix Alt Gr Key Not Working. In my case left Shift + Caps Lock + AltGr helped. I have no idea what it does, but it works. Some utility programs can also "steal" the keyboard stroks. In my case it appeared that the VirtualDesktopManager resulted in non-functional AltGr, so I could not write [ and ] .

Clearing TPM Does Not Ask For New Password, But "change Owner Password" Asks For The Old One

Image
Answer : I had the same problem. This is what I found after a lot of searching: Later versions of Windows 10 do not allow you to set, save or change the TPM owner password by default. The password is generated by windows, used by windows to configure the TPM then discarded. That way nobody can tamper with the TPM after it has been activated. In effect, the owner password no longer exists. You can disable this security feature by changing a registry value, clearing the TPM and rebooting. After that, you will be able to set and change the TPM owner password. See this article: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/itpro/windows/keep-secure/change-the-tpm-owner-password?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396 After reading the article, I decided to leave things as they are, with the new Windows default (i.e. no way to access or change TPM owner password). You only need the TPM owner password if the PC security is being centrally managed in an enterprise setup with the need for a security admin...

Black Screen When Alt-tab Or Exiting Fullscreen Games In Windows 10

Image
Answer : You can fix this by running the game in full-screen windowed mode, instead of running it in full-screen. The difference here is that you might lose out a tiny bit on high graphic games. When a game runs in full screen, it occupies the whole of grapic card power, leaving none to the Host OS, While in full screen windowed mode, the game loses out a bit on the "exclusive mode" & graphical interface. Starting a Full Screen Windowed game Download Fullscreenizer from here Extract and run fullscreenizer. Run your game in a window. If your game runs in a regular window or you can run it in a window, go to Step 4. If your game runs in fullscreen mode, try going to the game settings and then try changing the window type to windowed mode. If it is not possible to do this, then try CTRL+ALT+DEL and open task manager. This should minimize the game. In the fullscreenizer, click refresh, click on your game and click on fullscreenize. Note that this is not likely to wo...

Can't Enable Windows Hello - Some Settings Are Managed By Your Organization

Answer : I found the solution. The reason is that Windows Hello is managed differently on domain joined computers, starting with the anniversary update. To get it to work you have to follow these steps: 1) Setup a Group Policy Central Store (you should already have that) 2) Get Windows 10 Anniversary Update Group Policy Templates . You can do so by copying your files from PolicyDefinitions (in windir on a Win10 Anniversary Update machine) into the PolicyDefinitions of the central store. You might copy those files first to a file share, because of permissions your regular user should not have on the central store. 3) Setup a new GPO or add to an existing the following settings to enable Windows Hello: Computer Configuration/Policies/Administrative Templates .../Windows Components/Windows Hello For Business/ Use biometrics => Enabled .../Windows Components/Windows Hello for Business/ Use a hardware security device => Enabled (if you want to use TPM instead of k...

Can't Delete Font Files

Answer : This Registry key manages fonts that the system knows about: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Fonts I discovered in an older answer that removing a value of that key or changing a value's data to point to a nonexistent file will make Windows not see the font as usable. Therefore, if you remove the Registry entries that correspond to the fonts you want to torch (and then restart to make the system reload everything), you should be able to delete the fonts' files. If the above does not work on Windows 10, you can also STOP and DISABLE the following two services: Windows Font Cache Service Windows Presentation Foundation Font Cache 3.0.0.0 Reboot your computer, delete the font files, and re-enable the services by setting the Startup Type back to 'Manual'.

Can't Access Windows 10 Update Orchestrator Service

Answer : Disclaimer: The Update Orchestrator Service is tied to Windows Update. Changing the registry may cause problems with Windows Update and associated services. So if you don't know what the registry does I recommend not to mangle with registry and services. All Windows services have some security to control their permissions and user interactions. Security is managed through HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\SERVICE_NAME\Security and RequiredPrivileges registry. If there are some permissions denied in Service Manager (aka. services.msc ) then Startup Type can be changed using the registry. Use the following command to change startup type of that ``UsoSvc` service. set X=UsoSvc reg add "HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\%X%" /V "Start" /T REG_DWORD /D "4" /F What does the command do? reg add command adds (or changes) the Start DWORD registry in HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\UsoSvc registry path. The ...

Assigning A Virtual Desktop To A Monitor In Windows 10

Answer : I may be late to the party, but there is a workaround that can get near what you want to do: Type Win + Tab to show up the Multiple Desktops panel also showing windows of the current desktop. Right click on one of them and you can choose either "Show this window on all desktops" or "Show windows from this app on all desktops". You can now switch desktop and they'll stick to the screen. Afaik, if you choose the 2nd option, it will remember your choice even if you close all windows from the app at one point. hope it helps Unfortunately not with the windows 10 feature. Each virtual desktop contains all of your monitors. So when you switch to another virtual desktop you are switching to a new virtual desktop that spans all of your monitors. Maybe one of the third party solutions can do this and run on Windows 10.

Appdata/Local/Packages- Safe To Remove?

Answer : AppData folders store per-user information for applications, so if you delete an applications data, it will have to recreate it from default values. In effect the program will forget that you have used it before, configuration choices you may have made, saved files (like game savefiles), etc. I would recommend you use a tool like windirstat to determine where the space is being used, and what application(s) rely on it. From there you can then begin to determine the impact of your proposed deletion. See here for some more information related to your query: http://www.pcworld.com/article/2690709/windows/whats-in-the-hidden-windows-appdata-folder-and-how-to-find-it-if-you-need-it.html If you use Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL) you will blow away your entire file system for any linux distribution used if you delete this folder. At a quick glance that specific folder appears to be the location where the "per user" settings and state information for the Windows...

Cannot See Computers On Network

Answer : Network discovery has since always been a painful subject in all versions of Windows, especially now when so many security fixes were applied. I have collected below all the fixes I know. You might try them one by one, undoing the ones which do not help. Homogenous account types All the computers must be logged-on with the same type of account. Meaning that all must have a Microsoft account or a local account, as mixing account types will not work. If you change an account type that has created some network shares, they should be deleted and recreated. Network Reset In PC Settings, Network & Internet Settings, click Network Reset and in the next screen click Reset now. This will reset all network settings, so you may have to recreate any defined VPNs and re-enable settings such as Network Discovery. Computer Browser service broken As described in the Microsoft article SMBv1 is not installed by default in Windows 10 Fall Creators Update 2017 and Windows...

After Windows 10 Upgrade I Can No Longer Access BIOS

Answer : This is a common problem in all Lenovo laptops. I also have faced this problem so many times. For solving this please go to the link(link of official Lenovo's support site) and download latest bios setup and install it. It will update your bios and all will be all right. Download bios set for window 8.1 and install it. The manual also is given in PDF format. http://support.lenovo.com/in/hi/products/laptops-and-netbooks/lenovo-g-series-laptops/lenovo-g580-notebook Update: After this again the same problem happens with me but this time I already have latest BIOS version installed in my system and the Lenovo don't allow the installation of same or lower version of the BIOS in existing latest BIOS. So I stuck there and can not do anything. I also approached to the Lenovo service center but they are also helpless they suggest me to change the motherboard which cost me around 10000 INR.

Bridge From Wifi To Ethernet Not Working (Windows 10)

Answer : Wi-Fi cannot be bridged to Ethernet. This is not a Windows limitation in any way. There’s a good explanation on why that is in the old OpenWrt wiki. Instead, you should use Internet Connection Sharing (ie. make your PC a router): Go to the Network Connections control panel (where you’re currently trying to create the bridge) Open your Wi-Fi connection’s properties. Switch to the “Sharing” tab Enable it, selecting your Ethernet connection as the “Home networking connection”. Everything should automatically work after that. Wi-Fi CAN be bridged to Ethernet on Windows 10. Connect to Internet via WiFi. Take note of your private IP settings (e.g. IP:192.168.1.44 SM:255.255.255.0 GW:192.168.1.1 DNS:192.168.1.1) In Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network Connections, highlight WiFi and Ethernet (use shift click or Ctrl Click or shift arrow key). Rt-click on highlighted area and choose "Bridge Connections" At this point, hosting PC will lik...

Can USOShared Log Files Be Deleted?

Answer : ETL stands for Event Trace Log file which is created by Microsoft Tracelog, a program that creates logs using the events from the kernel in Microsoft operating systems. It contains trace messages that have been generated during trace sessions, such as disk accesses or page faults. ETL files are used to log high-frequency events while tracking the performance of an operating system. Microsoft Windows records application and system-level warnings, errors, or other events to these binary files called the event trace logs, which can then be used to troubleshoot potential problems. To answer your query, you may delete these files and deleting will not affect anything on your system. The abnormal part is why do you have so many of them. If you cannot remember having turned on tracing in some part of Windows, it will take real detective work to find it out.

Can A Fake Second Display Be Enabled In Windows 10?

Answer : Just spent last two hours trying to figure this out. First go to Control Panel (not Settings app) Go to Adjust Screen Resolution. You will get a similar window as you did in Windows 7. Click Detect Go to display Drop Down and select "Display Device on VGA" Select Desired Resolution. If windows is unable to save your settings use the software from your video card to adjust the resolution. If you aren't able to output the display to the Fake screen only, Press Windows+P and the select "Second display only" I hope this helps. This is by far not the ideal solution, but for now it will do: I put a 102 Ohm resistor across pins 2 and 7 of my VGA port (also known as the headless Mac Mini trick), and Windows 10 now believes I have a second monitor attached. On a different computer I had to use pins 1 and 6 and reboot before the "monitor" would work. I had the same problem and came up with a fairly simple solution: Just connect your p...

Can't Boot Into Ubuntu In Windows 10 / Ubuntu Dual Boot

Image
Answer : Disable the hibernation mode and Fast Boot in Windows. Open command prompt as administrator and execute : powercfg /h off Open the legacy version of the Windows Control Panel (not the modern version). Select Energy Settings , enable show hidden settings and uncheck Fast Boot. After having done this - shutdown the computer completely - do NOT reboot. Boot into the BIOS and select Ubuntu as the default operating system to boot. Update : In case there is no Ubuntu entry to be found in the BIOS / UEFI settings, re-install the GRUB boot loader to your Ubuntu installation in EFI mode. Boot from the Ubuntu installation media - open a terminal and execute: sudo mount /dev/sdXXX /mnt sudo mount /dev/sdXX /mnt/boot/efi for i in /dev /dev/pts /proc /sys /run; do sudo mount -B $i /mnt$i; done sudo chroot /mnt grub-install /dev/sdX update-grub Note: sdX = disk | sdXX = efi partition | sdXXX = system partition To identify the partition numbers use G...

Can We Use More Colors In Batch Script?

Image
Answer : Can I use more the 16 colours in a Windows batch file? No, as most most Windows apps only support 16 colours. However, in the Windows 10 Insiders Build #14931 the Windows Console was updated to support 24-bit RGB true color. Unfortunately as mentioned above most Windows apps cannot make use of this enhancement (yet). However, using Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL), Linux scripts and tools can use the Console's new 24-bit color support: One of the most frequent requests we receive is to increase the number of colors that the Windows Console can support. We love nothing more than to deliver features you ask for! But rather than just add a few more colors, or limit our console to a mere 256 colors, in Windows 10 Insiders Build #14931, we’ve updated the Windows Console to support full, glorious 24-bit RGB true color! This is actually a little tricky to demo since most Windows apps only support 16 colors at most whereas the Linux world has broadly supported 256 col...
